Veronica Markland graduated from the University of Texas San Antonio with a Bachelor's degree in Photography and minor in Art History. She is a Fine Art Photographer with the love and passion for Classic Black & White images, Abstract and Landscape Photography.
Her love for photography began when she attended community college in Dallas, Texas, but her passion for photography began as a child. The influence and techniques her professor taught, gave her a wide variety of enhancing and engaging views in the world. She was taught hands-on using the darkroom and fell in love with the wide range capabilities photography had to offer.
In the summer of 2002 in Dallas, Texas, Veronica had her photography on exhibit at 500x Gallery, Eastfield and Mountain View College, and Dallas City Hall. In addition, her work has been published in the college edition of “The Alternative Magazine” for Eastfield College depicting the combination of storytelling with photography. During this time, Veronica developed the concept of creating photographs as “diary-like” or “storytelling”. Raw images that displays beauty, texture, light, and love.
Since then, Veronica moved on to pursue her degree in Photography from the University of Texas San Antonio. In 2004, Veronica participated in a small business entrepreneurship class as a non-student to help create and build a calendar as charity to raise money for the student’s class trip. She was one artist to be chosen to display four of her works. Also in 2004, Veronica was chosen to display her work in a group showing at George Yepes Studio’s which was juried by Bill Fitzgibbons. In 2006, Veronica worked in a class credit internship for the San Antonio Opera as their Event Photographer. She would photograph meet & greets, stage productions, and dress rehearsals. It was a great opportunity to combine the visual arts with the musical arts. During the same year, her work was on display for the “3rd Biannual Photography Exhibition” juried by George Krause. In the spring of 2007, Veronica entered her work for the 2007 Homecoming Poster Contest. She won third place for her depiction of “Tradition, Spirit, Pride” in digital format. This poster is now on permanent display on the grounds of UTSA. In 2008, the photography of Veronica Markland was chosen to be part of the 1st annual New Arte Nuevo 2008 Exhibition at the University of Texas San Antonio Art Gallery. During the same year, she became part of the San Antonio Visual Artist’s Group and displayed her “Fiesta Dancers” digital photograph as part of the reception held at the Spanish Governor’s Palace in downtown San Antonio. Since then, Veronica has taken part in the San Antonio Visual Artist group and has had work on display at their Rivercenter Gallery.
In August 2009, Veronica had her first solo show with the art group “Art at the Jalapeno”. The show was a success and opened up a lot more possibilities for Veronica’s photography.
At the start of 2010, Veronica displayed her photography at Rise Bakery and Coffee in the San Antonio/Stone Oak area. Here she displayed photographs of abstract photography along with black & white landscapes.
One of her favorite quotes can be summed up by this photographer. "The most important thing is to take a picture with your heart." - Gisele Fruend. Her photography influences are: Ruth Orkin, Joel Grey, Gisele Fruend, and Elliot Erwitt.
Currently, Veronica is a member of the San Antonio Visual Artists and has now joined forces with her UTSA friends to collaborate and form B.E.L.L.A. – Believe.Enchant.Live.Learn.Art, a professional organization dedicated to promote Texas artists.
"Art is only the beginning...for an adventure."
